EVO 2023 breaks record of registered players thanks to Street Fighter 6

Without a doubt, the competitive fighting game scene is experiencing one of its best moments. As proof of the above, we have the unprecedented number of players who will participate in one of the main tournaments of EVO 2023, the most important professional event of the year in regards to the fighting genre.

The event will take place from August 3 to 6 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, United States. During 3 days, hundreds of players will face each other and try to reach the last stages of the competition. The hype is palpable and is reflected in the number of registered participants.

At the end of June, we told you that the contest exceeded 9,000 registered players. Now, the organizers revealed more information about it and announced the number of people who will compete in the 8 tournaments that make up the main lineup.

EVO 2023 will be huge; Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear -Strive- and TEKKEN 7 are the most popular tournaments

Through a release, those responsible for the professional event confirmed that in this year’s edition there are 9182 unique registered players. This represents an increase of 81.8% compared to EVO 2022, where 5,052 people competed in the tournaments.

In this way, EVO 2023 breaks records and already has the largest number of registered competitors in the history of the competitive event. This impressive achievement was made possible by Street Fighter 6a Capcom game that covers 74.9% of the total registrations with 7061 participants.

Of course, many of the players who will compete in Street Fighter 6 they will also play in other tournaments.

Guilty Gear -Strive- and TEKKEN 7 ranked second and third, respectively. It draws attention that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, a title that debuted in 2011, took fourth place with 1,346 competitors, a number that represents a new record for the crossover franchise. We must remember that he left the main stage of the tournament in 2017.

No doubt, EVO 2023 will be a party for all fighting game fans. During the 3 days of competition, the developers are expected to make announcements for their respective games and reveal surprises that will excite the community.
