Taliban suspend Swedish activities in Afghanistan over burning copy of Koran

Fundamentalist group says measure will stand until Stockholm “apologizes to Muslims”

July 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Taliban announced on Tuesday the suspension of Swedish activities in Afghanistan “until they apologize to the Muslims” for burning a copy of the Koran during a demonstration held in June in front of a mosque in the capital, Stockholm, a fact that called it an “egregious act”.

“Following the insult to the Holy Quran and the Muslim faith in Sweden, the Islamic Emirate suspends Swedish activities in Afghanistan until they apologize to Muslims for this heinous act,” the group said in a statement published by the Islamic State spokesman. Taliban and Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, Zabihulá Mujahid.

Thus, it has stressed that “the relevant organizations of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan are obliged to comply with this order”, while it has stressed that “taking into account the rude act of Sweden, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan wants other Muslim countries to reconsider their interactions with this country”.

The burning of the sacred book led several countries to call their ambassadors for consultations or summon Swedish representatives and unleashed a wave of calls in favor of a boycott of Swedish products, as well as criticism of the authorities of the European country for giving authorization to the demonstration knowing that a copy of the Koran was going to be set on fire.
