Ukraine calls for a “clear gesture” to the Alliance in Vilnius
July 10 () –
The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has affirmed this Monday that his country is already ‘de facto’ within NATO and has indicated that they are working to specify the “algorithm” to materialize their entry.
“Ukraine is already ‘de facto’ in the Alliance. Our weapons are the weapons of the Alliance. Our values are what the Alliance believes in. Our defense is the element of Europe’s formula that makes it united, free and be at peace,” Zelensky said in his regular evening presidential address.
In any case, Zelenski has highlighted the importance of the NATO summit that begins this Tuesday in Vilnius and has indicated that the Ukrainian authorities are working to achieve the “algorithm” that guarantees their entry into NATO.
“Ukraine is on the eve of Vilnius. The NATO Summit may be exactly what our country, the entire Alliance and global security need,” he stressed. “We are working tremendously these days! More actively than ever and although this work is almost one hundred percent behind the scenes, it is no less important than what is done in front of the public,” he explained.
It only remains that “Vilnius confirms it.” “We continue working on the wording, on the specific words that confirm it, but we are already aware of the fact that Ukraine will be in the Alliance and we are working to specify the algorithm to achieve membership as clearly and quickly as possible,” he argued.
Zelenski has recognized that there are “different positions”, but “it is clear that Ukraine deserves to be in the Alliance. Not now, that there is a war, but we need a clear gesture and we need it now”, he snapped. In this sense, he stressed that “the majority of the Alliance is clearly with us.”
The president has also highlighted the importance of bilateral meetings with leaders of European countries, the United States, Canada or Japan. “The priorities are perfectly clear: anti-aircraft defense for our cities, for the entire population of the country. We are working to build a total air shield,” he indicated.
“Also weapons for the front. We will also talk about it in Vilnius. Of course we will also talk about other aspects, about protecting life and our common security. I am sure that good news about weapons for our warriors will come from Vilnius,” he said. added.
