Ukrainian woman accused of belonging to Islamic State arrested in Germany

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office of Germany has reported this Monday that agents of the institution arrested a Ukrainian woman on Thursday of last week in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (west) for her alleged affiliation with the Islamic State.

The suspect, in pretrial detention, is accused of belonging to a terrorist organization abroad, as well as having violated the duty of care and education of a minor, according to the Prosecutor’s Office in a statement on its website.

The Ukrainian woman, identified as Z. Khatidche, would have traveled to Syria in 2014 with what was then her husband and their four children, where she would have enlisted with her partner in the Islamic State terrorist organization.

After her husband’s death, Jatidche married two other Islamic State members “according to Islamic rites,” and raised their children also based on the organization’s ideological doctrine.

Later, already at the beginning of 2019, “the Kurds took the accused prisoner”, who remained in captivity until 2021. The German authorities detained her in Bielefeld, about 150 kilometers from Duesseldorf.
