() — Larry Nassar, a former USA Gymnastics doctor, was assaulted during an incident at the federal prison where he is being held in Florida, according to two sources familiar with the incident.
Joe Rojas, president of the local corrections officers union, told that Nassar was stabbed a total of 10 times, twice in the neck, twice in the back and six in the chest. Rojas attributes the credit for saving Nassar’s life to prison officials who came to the scene and says Nassar is stable.
A statement from the Bureau of Prisons confirms that “on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at approximately 2:35 p.m., an inmate was assaulted at the United States Penitentiary (USP) Coleman II, in Sumterville. , Florida. According to the statement, an internal investigation into the incident is underway. The inmate, who a family source confirmed to be Nassar, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Nassar was sentenced to 60 years in federal prison on child pornography charges in 2017.
