July 10 () –

The Ukrainian filmmaker and documentary maker Oleg Sentsov has been injured in the context of the fighting in Ukraine, as confirmed by him, without any further details on his state of health for the moment.

Sentsov has posted a video on his account on the Facebook social network in which he says he was injured by shrapnel. “That was yesterday. Today I’m better. In the hospital with other boys,” he said in a message posted along with the video.

The documentary filmmaker, born in Crimea, was arrested in 2014 after the annexation of the peninsula by Russia, after which he was sentenced in 2015 to 20 years in prison for allegedly planning terrorist attacks. Likewise, he was accused of belonging to the ultranationalist movement Right Sector.

Sentsov denied all the charges against him and denounced torture to force his confession and was finally released in 2019 under a prisoner release agreement. The documentary filmmaker volunteered after the start of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and has reached the rank of lieutenant, according to the German news agency DPA.

The filmmaker has released three films to date -the last of them ‘Rhino’, from 2021– and has been the subject of the documentary ‘The Oleg Sentsov case’, directed by the Uzbek director Asjold Kurov and which addresses the judicial process in who was sentenced in 2015.
