July 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
A Palestinian woman has attempted to stab an East Jerusalem light rail security guard and has been injured after being shot in the foot by the guard himself.
The incident occurred at the Jerusalem Ammunition Hill light rail station, in the Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Yarrá, according to the Israeli authorities. Police have reported that the attacker is in good condition.
The security guard has reported that the woman approached suspiciously. “I told him if he needed help and he reached into a bag he was carrying to get a knife. I walked away, cocked my gun, fired twice into the air and told him to drop the knife,” she explained. “She didn’t, so I shot her once in the knee,” she added.
The Israeli government has relaxed legislation to facilitate the carrying and use of firearms both by the Police and the Army as well as by Israeli civilians, including Jewish settlers in the West Bank.
