Regrets that the Palestinian Authority has lost “credibility” but maintains its support for a two-state solution

July 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has criticized the current Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the support of ultranationalism as “one of the most extremist” he can remember before accusing the radicals of being “part of the problem”. of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by approving the settlement of settlers “wherever they want”.

Biden has made these statements in an interview with that will be broadcast in its entirety this Sunday and from which the ‘Times of Israel’ has obtained excerpts.

Although Biden stresses that he will continue to be an “uncompromising supporter of Israel as long as he lives”, the president of the United States once again shows his concern about the extreme policies of the Netanyahu government, as he did a few months ago when criticizing the controversial judicial reform that is being promoted by the Israeli prime minister, the object of harsh criticism among the opposition, which considers it an attack on the separation of powers.

“I think Netanyahu is still trying to figure out how to solve the problems he has within his coalition,” adds Biden, before insisting that the solution to the conflict with the Palestinians involves the creation of two states. Ultranationalist members of the Netanyahu Cabinet “are part of the problem, especially those who say they can settle wherever they want and tell Palestinians they have no right to live there.”

Biden also criticizes the Palestinian Authority, a body that “has lost its credibility” during recent conflicts between Palestinian factions and Israel. As a consequence, he has created a “vacuum for extremism” with elements “as radical” as those found in the Israeli government.

“I only hope that ‘Bibi’ (Netanyahu) exercises restraint within his reform plans,” concludes Biden.
