Renfe MercancĂas has awarded, for 945,000 euros, to SEYS Medioambiente and D&A Innovate System Devices the supply and installation of the sensor system with the Internet of Things (IoT) application of geolocation (GPS) for 222 locomotives and 678 wagons,
This award includes the contribution of means and equipment for the generation of renewable energy for its supply if necessary, as well as an IoT platform to facilitate the management of information from rolling stock, as reported by Renfe in a release.
The implementation of the system, whose fundamental element is the installation of GPS with centralized control, will result in the monitoring of the merchandise transported by the trains when they cross the borders or are in the terminals, which will allow the client to know exactly the status of your merchandise.
The location information will be issued every 5/10 minutes in the case of locomotives and the device or sensor can be connected to the battery of the traction equipment to use it while it is running.
This sensorization will be applied to a set of locomotives of the 251, 252, 253, 319 and 333 series, as specified by the railway company.
In the case of rolling stock, the wagons with the greatest demand, either because of their high load capacity (MMC3E) or because of their specialization for temperature-controlled loading (MC3), location information will be issued between 4 and 6 times a day. , so that energy consumption is minimized and the life cycle of the installed IoT nodes is maximized, so that their replacement coincides with the maintenance cycles of the wagons.
Likewise, the traceability of the park, in addition to providing value to customers, allows streamlining management in the terminals by having the position of the wagons and locomotives within their facilities identified and, in addition, improves the control of material maintenance plans. since it allows to accurately count the kilometers traveled both inside and outside the peninsula and in this way, make a good preventive and even corrective management in case of incidents.
Once the supplier has been awarded, Renfe MercancĂas will monitor the manufacture and installation of the system, as well as the necessary controls to guarantee its correct operation and commissioning within the established deadlines. Both the supply and the installation and commissioning of the system must have been completed within a period of 18 months.
The investment for the supply of the system is situated in the context of the Next Generation Government Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union, which will subsidize its acquisition.
