Thousands of protesters took to the streets this Saturday for the 27th consecutive week to protest against the judicial reform promoted by the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and which, according to the opposition and civil society groups, endangers democracy by not guaranteeing independence judicial.
The participants in the mobilizations have cut important crossroads throughout the country despite warnings from the Police, which have stressed that there will be “zero tolerance” against attempts to damage infrastructure or symbols of the State or attack agents.
One of the rallies has been called next to the headquarters of the Israel Defense Forces in Tel Aviv. Relatives of deceased servicemen have erected their medals while exclaiming that their sons died “For nothing!”
One more week the most massive concentration has been that of Tel Aviv, with 143,000 attendees, according to the estimate of Channel 13 of Israeli television, although the conveners assure that 180,000 have seconded the call. Tens of thousands more people have demonstrated in other parts of the country.
“The disintegration of the state continues with the support of government ministers and their daily performances in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) at the hands of the so-called Youth of the Hills or Hilltop Youth, a private militia of fascist anarchists who do not recognize the laws of the They are the golem that rises up against their creator or, in more modern terms, the Wagner settler force,” exclaimed former Security Minister Omer Barlev from Tel Aviv.
The mobilization this Saturday is of special importance because next Monday the government’s proposal is expected to be voted on at first reading in the Knesset or Israeli Parliament. The initiative drastically cuts judicial powers to question the legality of government decisions.
In addition, a new protest has been called for Tuesday to force the Executive to reverse the reform. “It has to be a mobilization the like of which has never been seen in Israel, on Tuesday, the first of the three votes in full session of the law that would prevent the courts from exercising a judicial review of the reasonableness of the government’s decisions,” have highlighted the conveners.
“We are going to intensify our fight,” they warned, while calling on employers to give employees the day off to be able to participate in the protest, which demands the total withdrawal of the judicial reform.
