Iran executes the two defendants for the attack on the Shah Cheragh mosque, which left 13 dead

July 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Two men have been hanged this Saturday in Iran as responsible for the attack -in October 2022- against the Shiite sanctuary of Shah Cheragh, which resulted in 13 deaths and thirty injuries and which was claimed by the Islamic State group, Iran’s state news agency IRNA has reported.

The two were executed in the early hours of Saturday in the city of Shiraz, in the south of the country.

According to Iranian media, the defendants claimed during their trial that they had been in contact with Islamic State in Afghanistan and acknowledged that they had helped organize the attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine.

The two individuals were sentenced in March to death by public execution, considered guilty “of a crime of corruption, rebellion and acts against the security of the country”, as explained at the time by the president of the superior court of justice of the province of Fars, Kazem Mousavi.

The judge then stressed that the two inmates had been directly involved in obtaining the weapons, supporting and giving instructions to the material author of the attack, who died from shots fired by the security forces.
