Two workers die after a beam falls from a platform during a road construction in Japan

July 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least two workers have died and seven have been injured this Thursday after a beam fell from a platform during the construction of a bridge over a highway in the Japanese prefecture of Shizuoka, located in the center of the Asian country, as confirmed by the authorities.

The Police have indicated that the 65-meter beam, built of steel and weighing about 140 tons, has fallen from a height of about nine meters and has stated that the two fatalities are two men in their 50s. Among the injured there are several in serious condition, so it is not ruled out that the death toll may increase in the next few hours.

The authorities have opened an investigation into what happened and for the moment it is not ruled out that there may be accusations of negligence, as reported by the Japanese news agency Kiodo. The bridge was being built as part of a bypass to reduce traffic density in the area.
