Israel denounces the kidnapping of a Russian-Israeli analyst at the hands of a Shiite militia in Iraq

July 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli authorities have denounced this Wednesday the kidnapping of the Russian-Israeli citizen Elizabeth Tsurkov at the hands of a “radical Shiite militia” in Iraq and have assured that the analyst and researcher “is not a member of the Mossad”, the Israeli intelligence agency .

The words of the Government of Israel come months after his family reported his disappearance last March, according to information from the office of the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who has now indicated that Tsurkov would have been kidnapped by the Iraqi militia Kataeb Hezbollah, a group that, as he has indicated, has “the backing of Iran”

Thus, he has indicated that everything indicates that “she is still alive” and has qualified that the Government “sees Iraq as responsible for what happens to it and its security.” Tsurkov was in Iraq visiting the country as an academic at Princeton University and would have used her Russian passport to enter the country, according to information collected by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

The Israeli authorities, who have been in contact with her family, have insisted that she is an “innocent Israeli citizen” and have separated her from Intelligence or the Government of the country.
