More than 10,000 Burmese citizens have been seen leaving the Sagaing region in northern Burma, fleeing airstrikes carried out by the military regime that has ruled the country since the February 2021 coup.

According to the aforementioned newspaper, on Thursday afternoon the military forces entered the village of Namyar by helicopter, while two other Russian-made Mi-35 helicopters attacked the village for at least 40 minutes.

According to sources from the local group that helps the displaced Tabayin’s Brothers, this offensive by the authorities has been in response to the arrival of combatants from the Kachin Independence Army ethnic armed organization.

After leaving Namyar, regime soldiers stormed the village of Yin Khyay this Friday, opening fire as they passed, while another detachment raided and burned houses in the village of Kone Tel, after doing the same in Nayakan.
