The activity carried out on June 28 called: “Field day in plantain cultivation”, also participated public institutions of Colombia such as the National Learning Service (SENA), the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA), the Colombian Corporation for Agricultural Research (AGROSAVIA) and the Agrarian Bank of Colombia, among others.
This field day on plantain cultivation had the participation of 80 producers from the municipality of La Celia who mainly received technical assistance in the management of risk factors associated with the Moko disease that affects Musaceae and constitutes the second place in economic importance for the municipality. This project, which has been accompanied by ECLAC since 2022 with the consultants Jaime Cortés and Jair Ojeda, has strengthened the capacities of extension technicians and producers in the department of Risaralda in digital skills, especially with the use of digital instant messaging tools. .
During the field day training in La Celia, they received information on the preparation of biopreparations and organic fertilizers, the handling of banana seeds, the handling of the banana bag, credits for agriculture and free courses for producers of the agricultural sector in the department.
At the end of the training day, the operational director of the Secretary of Agricultural Development of the Government of Risaralda, Juan José Martínez, pointed out that: “it is very important for the producers of the department that they know the disease, how is its transmission process, and above all, what is the economic impact on crops”.
