CISI PROJECT

The project promotes better urban connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean based on GIS principles, developing tools and providing technical assistance to cities in the region. To that end, dialogues and studies have been promoted on the demand for connectivity in Latin American and Caribbean cities and the potential of the regional industry to satisfy that demand at the appropriate scale in pilot cities and countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia. To achieve the objective, work is carried out around three main purposes, together with the aforementioned GIS conceptual axis: (1) the strengthening of intraregional cooperation, (2) the development of capacities and competences and (3) the strengthening of the exchange of experiences through interregional level. With this perspective, the project will contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda:

The project is executed through intersectoral and interdisciplinary groups, made up of the substantive divisions of ECLAC. Additionally, it collaborates with the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), jointly carrying out comparative studies with cities and countries in Latin America and Asia.

In its second phase (2022-2024), the project also seeks to respond to the growing interest in electromobility and more resilient economic models, broadening its focus on urban connectivity through the circular economy.
