July 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has updated on Monday night that nine Palestinians have been killed and more than a hundred injured – at least 20 of them in critical condition – in an operation by the Israeli Army launched last morning in the West Bank city of Jenin.
In addition, another 21-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli forces in the West Bank town of Al Biré, an incident apparently unrelated to the operation in Jenin.
As indicated by Islamic Jihad, the deceased are between 16 and 23 years old. Likewise, he has indicated that “the brutal aggression will not break the courageous will of Jenin”, so that “the resistance fighters will continue fighting despite the sacrifices, indicating that all options are on the table to hit the enemy and respond to his barbaric aggression”.
The military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, the Al Quds Brigades, have indicated that they have responded to Israeli troops, “achieving direct casualties among the forces and vehicles”, despite the fact that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not pronounced about it. The Jenin Brigade has also claimed to have shot down three Israeli drones.
The IDF announced an attack on “terrorist infrastructure” in Jenin in order to “counter terrorism throughout the city and in the Jenin refugee camp.” Israeli soldiers have attacked an Islamic Jihad headquarters, taken a mosque and destroyed several “combat command rooms”.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to expedite the case brought before him and has encouraged Palestinian families to bring cases in court against Israeli forces. Thus, he has demanded the suspension of Israel’s membership in the UN and has invited the Arab and international community to support the Palestinian position.
Tensions have spiked especially since June 19, when an Israeli army raid in Jenin left seven Palestinians dead — including two minors — and more than 90 wounded. Just a day later, four Israelis were killed in an attack near the Eli settlement.
In this context, hundreds of settlers carried out attacks against West Bank towns, events that resulted in the death of a Palestinian, while the Israeli Army killed three Palestinians –members of Islamic Jihad and the armed wing of Al Fatah– in a drone strike near Jenin.
