The president of the Russian Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, raised this Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin the possibility of delaying the elections in the annexed Ukrainian regions if “unforeseen circumstances” occur, despite the theoretical intention of Moscow is due to take place in September.
Local elections are initially scheduled for September 10, but Pamfilova has warned that “anything can happen” given that the situation on the ground is “difficult.” In this sense, she has called to take into account the possible “dangers” to the integrity of voters, according to the Interfax agency.
Russia considers the Ukrainian regions of Zaporizhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Lugansk as national territory, despite not controlling them in their entirety and after referendums without any type of external recognition.
