kyiv had been calling for the creation of a special court to try the highest Russian officials for months.
The city of The Hague, in the Netherlands, opened on Monday an international office in charge of investigating the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is the first step towards the possible creation of a court to judge the Russian leaders.
The International Center for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine (ICPA) brings together prosecutors from kyiv, the European Union, the United States and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
This form of prosecution is responsible for investigating and gathering evidence. It is proposed as a first step before the creation, at the request of kyiv, of a special court to try the highest Russian officials, as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.
