At least one Palestinian has been killed and another seriously injured by shelling by the Israeli army in the West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported.
The Israeli military has attacked Palestinian territory by shelling from aircraft, while large numbers of ground forces have been seen entering the city from various directions, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced on their Twitter social network account that at midnight Israeli soldiers are “attacking a terrorist infrastructure” in Jenin.
“Security forces are now working on a comprehensive effort to counter terrorism throughout the city and in the Jenin refugee camp,” the IDF said, indicating that more details would be provided in the coming hours.
This attack comes less than two weeks after the IDF drone killed three suspected Palestinian terrorists responsible for several shootings in the West Bank, in what was the first “targeted” attack in the West Bank since 2006.
