The banking entities carry out ticket status verification processeshowever, some broken or false may end up in the ATM.
For these cases, the Financial Superintendence of Colombia and Asobancaria have designed a process so that you can claim a bill in good condition and true at the corresponding bank.
(See: The policeman who “ate” some bills after extorting a merchant).
If you receive counterfeit or torn bills at a bank’s ATM, you must do the following:
1. Address to entity as soon as possiblesince the Superfinanciera ensures that it has a term of 3 days, however, this time may vary depending on the bank.
2. Write a letter describing the situation. In it you must include the number of tickets, denomination, number of the card with which you made the transaction, the place of the transaction, the date on which the operation was carried out and your basic contact information.
3. Ask your bank if requires filling out a claim form, if so, include the pertinent information.
4. The entity will verify if the ticket is indeed false or if the break prevents its use. At this point, the bank’s job is to verify that the series and denomination match the one given by the teller.
(See: Banrep banknote ink supplier condemned for corruption).
5. After checking there are two options:
– If there are inconsistencies in the information, in this case the refund will not be made.
– If the ticket or tickets are delivered by the cashier, here the entity makes the cash refund to the customer’s account.
How to know if a ticket is fake?
Sometimes there is confusion when tickets are receivedsince fraud and falsification techniques are increasingly perfected.
To avoid headaches, the Bank of the Republic has shared several ways to identify them:
– Check that in the images and texts there is high relief.
– Check color changes.
– Check that all the images appear very well defined against the light.
– check the fluorescence.
– Check that there are micro texts.
