“5G has been in commercial use around the world for four years. It is driving the creation of new values, and 5.5G is the next step forward,” Meng said. “Science and technology are moving towards large and complex systems. This requires adapting the technology to specific scenarios and performing systems engineering, in order to pave the way for the continued success of 5G.”
Despite the optimism, the numbers in the region speak volumes. And in the case of the GSMA, it points out that the adoption of 4G will see its peak in 2024 while countries like China seek to accelerate the adoption of 5G communication, investing heavily in telecommunications infrastructure to achieve more than 1,000 million 5G connections. by 2025.
Meng also points out that there are three verticals where this network is creating value: mobile services, AI-powered shopping experience, and cloud.
In the future, 5G will lead to new devices and applications that provide a more immersive experience, such as 5G New Calling and the use of 3D. 5G is also ushering in a new era of super connectivity between things, bringing new strength to IoT networks and driving new forms of productivity, hence the relevance of 5.5G to the Huawei executive.
“Information technologies such as 5G, 5.5G, AI and cloud will help us rise with the tide and lead us towards an intelligent world. The best case scenario is always ahead,” Meng said.
The challenges, however, are in the cost of the spectrum, so another of the brand’s messages is to be patient in the deployment.
It should be noted that at the Barcelona event, SK Telecom, KT Corp and LG Uplus were relevant exhibitors, but at the MWC in Shanghai they had little presence, so the message they have had around 5.5G has been promoted more among Chinese companies that have attended.
