( Spanish) — An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was recorded this Thursday near Guayaquil, in Ecuador, according to a report from the United States Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym in English).
The earthquake occurred 10 kilometers from the Ecuadorian city Yaguachi Nuevo and the depth of the telluric movement, according to the USGS, is 80 kilometers.
Yaguachi is located about 30 kilometers from Guayaquil, one of the most populated cities in Ecuador.
The earthquake was also felt in Quito, according to a team in the capital.
According to the report presented by the National Service for Risk and Emergency Management of Ecuador, this Thursday’s earthquake left at least one dead. This is a person who suffered an electric shock after the fall of a power line in Simón Bolívar.
In addition, the official damage count reports 4 affected health care centers and 3 damaged homes.
