The National Government and President Gustavo Petro prepare to decree the economic and social emergency for La Guajira.

The president assured: “We have seen, I think it is absolutely pertinent, decreeing the economic and social emergency because a public calamity is looming.”
Furthermore it was confirmed that Efforts will be focused mainly on providing water to the La Guajira region and changing its uses.
“We are not going to create a water company, but a water institute of La Guajira“, commented the first president.

In this sense, Petro pointed out that to achieve the objective an “army of cars” would be made available so that there is no shortage of water in any corner and that they would recover “1,000 wells made by General Rojas Pinilla”, added.
It was known that they would try to build a tube to draw water of the Ranchería river to the north of the department, this would imply carrying out a desalination operation.

“These are the intentions that we want to carry in economic and social emergency decrees”said the president and immediately asked that the Constitutional Court give the go-ahead to the emergency.
Regarding other issues, He referred to programs that currently have his health reform that he would apply in the region, as well as the creation of the Wayú University and the Faculty of Medicine in Guajiro territory and a decree would be made for the Sama company to return to producing salt in Manaure.
