Jupol halves its support in the Police elections and is no longer the majority union

Jupol, an exponent of the most radical positions within the National Police, has ceased to be this Wednesday the majority union in the Corps. The union elections have produced a result that reduces to four the eight members of the Police Council that they obtained in 2019, which ties it with the Unified Police Union (SUP). Four years ago, in the first elections they attended, Jupol reduced the traditional unions to a minimum, but the investigation for embezzlement of funds within the organization and the impossibility of satisfying the maximalist demands for salary increases that flagged have caused this electoral disaster.

In this way, the Jupol coalition and Police Union Alternative –a new organization that defends the postulates of the extreme right– would add four vowels, the same as the SUP. The Spanish Police Confederation (CEP) doubles its representation and from one member to two. They will complete the representation in the Police Council, the body where unions and Administration come together, the Federal Police Union (UFP), which maintains the member it had, and EYA (Equiparación Ya) bursts in, with a member. The Professional Police Union, which represents the commanders, obtains two members in the scales where it attends.

The four representatives of Jupol are the result of the votes obtained in the Basic Scale, where the SUP has obtained 2 vowels and the CEP as many. In this way, Jupol, which had representation on three scales, now has it on only one. In the ‘basin’ police they have also obtained a member UFP and EYA. In the Sub-inspection Scale, the SUP has the only representative while in the Executive Scale (inspectors and chief inspectors), the two members are divided between the Professional Police Union (SPP) and the SUP. In the Upper Scale, commissioners and main commissioners, the vowel in play is for the SPP.

The Investigating Court number 53 of Madrid investigates what Jupol spent 359,434 euros on between January 2019 and June 2021. The union is financed through the fees of its members while receiving public funds based on its broad representation in the Police Council. The message of regeneration in the face of some traditional unions that they accused of not firmly defending the interests of the police and living on perks faltered when the investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit became known.

elDiario.es reported exclusively on Tuesday that the Internal Affairs Unit of the Police has presented a new report to the judge in which it affirms that there are more than 13,000 euros in expenses of its current secretary general, Aarón Rivero, that they cannot find justification in the documentation provided by the organization at the request of the court, sources close to the case have advanced to elDiario.es.

The police report is the result of the order that the head of the Investigating Court number 53 of Madrid had made to Internal Affairs to clarify the destination of almost 360,000 euros from the union between January 2019 and June 2021, that is, from six months before Jupol swept the first union elections to which it was presented and until the departure of its previous general secretary, José María García. The union as a legal person and García himself are accused of embezzlement in the aforementioned case.

However, the judicial investigation already affects the current management of Jupol. Its current leader, Aarón Rivero, was a member of the investigated leadership, whose members had 97 credit cards for expenses, Internal Affairs discovered. After a first report from this unit, the judge required new documentation from the union and the new report, which arrived at the court a few days ago, is the result of the analysis of that documentation.

After the aggressive eruption of Jupol in the heat of the independence process in Catalonia, demanding that the national police be paid the same as the mossos, and with the unconditional support of groups such as Ciudadanos and Vox, the momentum of his proposal loses steam. The SUP, the majority union until the irruption of Vox, is already tied with the union heir to Jusapol while the rest of the traditional centrals, especially the CEP, recover their place.

Significant is the entry into the Police Council of EYA, an organization headed by the first general secretary of Jupol, and who blames the union for having lost the essence of its beginnings. Jupol’s concern for EYA was revealed when he tried to get them out of the electoral race through the courts. He even got Jupol to get a court to leave them out of the campaign with a very precautionary measure, alleging that they had copied their initial slogan, a decision that was corrected by the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid.
