Third meeting of the G20 Infrastructure Working Group

The third meeting of the Working Group on Infrastructures (IWG) of the G20 under the Indian G20 Presidency is scheduled to take place in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand from June 26-28, 2023. A total of 63 delegates from G20 member countries, invited countries and international organizations will participate in the meeting to advance the discussions on the 2023 Infrastructure Agenda under the Indian G20 Presidency and follow up on the discussions held during the second meeting of the IWG held in March 2023 in Visakhapatnam.

The G20 Infrastructure Working Group discusses various aspects of infrastructure investment, including developing infrastructure as an asset class, promoting quality infrastructure investment, and identifying innovative instruments to mobilize financial resources for investment in infrastructures. The results of the Infrastructure Working Group feed into the priorities of the G20 Financial Track and promote infrastructure development.

In the third meeting of the IWG, the substantial advances in the different lines of work of the Infrastructure Agenda 2023 will be discussed. The main priority that will be discussed in this meeting is “Financing the cities of tomorrow: Inclusive, resilient and sustainable”, together with other priorities.

During the three days of the meeting, various official meetings and cultural programs for the delegates have been planned. In addition to the official discussions, delegates will learn about the rich culture and beautiful landscapes of Rishikesh. The Presidency has also organized an excursion for the delegates on June 28 in the afternoon.

On the sidelines of the IWG meetings, two side events are also scheduled. On June 26, in collaboration with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the “High-Level Seminar on the Roadmap to Sustainable Cities” is organized. Discussions over the three sessions will allow G20 decision-makers to hear about major challenges, from climate change to infrastructure resilience, rapid urbanization and inclusiveness, as well as explore the role of technology, Infratech and digitization.

Delegates will also learn from a unique perspective on the launch of one of the world’s most ambitious new urban developments: NUSANTARA in Indonesia. Numerous national and international experts will participate in the debate.

On June 27, a roundtable on India’s becoming an MRO hub has been scheduled with a program to discuss the opportunities India can offer in the MRO space.

Delegates will also be invited for “Ratri Bhoj Par Samvad” (Dinner Conversation) to enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand and relish the local cuisine. The presidency has also planned a “Yoga Retreat” on June 26, 2023 for delegates to experience.
