Since its launch over a decade ago, skullgirls managed to become one of the most beloved fighting titles by the community. Over the years, it received numerous changes, new versions, and a spin-off for mobile devices. The most recent update is arguably the most controversial to date.

This week, director MightyZug and the developer studio confirmed that they have made the decision to make minor adjustments to the art, color palettes, and other elements of Skullgirls Mobile and Skullgirls 2nd Encore, the current version of the fighting title. These changes came as part of the most recent wave of patches.

The modifications are intended to mitigate content that may be considered inappropriate and offensive. Above all, the developers addressed the fanservice regarding the characters and the visual and narrative elements alluding to real-life groups.

In the final part of the official statement, the director MightyZug acknowledged that these changes and the new position of the study could upset certain players. Surely he was right.

“Imagine deleting someone else’s work because you now have the rights to it,” commented an angry person on Steam. “Literally, [los desarrolladores] they did an update to remove everything they found offensive, not even offering options to keep or change the original art. I can no longer support the dev team if they will do these things,” another user commented.

In the statement, MightyZug assured that they do not intend to discuss these changes in the future. Now it’s hard to know if the backlash from the community will have any repercussions and cause the studio to change its mind. Meanwhile, it is clear that skullgirls commitment to political correctness.
