The arrival of Secrets of the Obscure will herald the beginning of a new chapter following the end of the Elder Dragons cycle that underpinned every major event from the original release to Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. Today the game has received an update with a small cutscene that serves as a transition and an interlude that will take players to see the entire Seitung Province. With the release of the expansion, a new threat will rise against Tyria that will lead the heroes to explore an archipelago in the sky and soar to the heights to combat invading forces of the Kryptis.
The arrival of Secrets of the Obscure will mark the beginning of the adventure that will continue with the release of three story and content updates that will be available at a later date. “The launch day story will stand alone, but subsequent releases will follow from its conclusion to tell the rest of the expansion story,” ArenaNet explains. “We also plan quarterly feature releases and additional updates for the entire game.”
In addition to a new adventure, mechanics, story, and activities, Secrets of the Obscure will introduce changes to combat with weapons master training, “which allows weapons from elite specializations to be used as core profession proficiencies,” it says. ArenaNet. Once Weapon Master Training has been unlocked, all weapons from the elite specializations can be used without the need to equip the corresponding trait line. This novelty can be tested during a weekend beta that will take place from June 29 to July 2.
At the combat level, Secrets of the Obscure has three other novelties including redesigned runes, an optimization of the current system where the sixth rank will be divided into two different choices; all settings will include a relic slot that can be started at level 60; and in a future update that will introduce expanded weapon proficiencies.
