The death toll from the collapse of a 13-story building in Alexandria (Egypt) rises to four on Monday

June 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least four people have died and another four have been slightly injured as a result of the collapse on Monday of a thirteen-story building located in the city of Alexandria, in northern Egypt.

The authorities have managed to identify three of the victims, all of them men aged 40, 22 and thirteen. The fourth body found is one of the five people initially declared missing.

The Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the arrest of a contractor linked to the building accused of carrying out unauthorized construction on the top floor of the building, which should have been demolished due to the risk of collapse, reports the newspaper ‘Al Ahram’.

“The top floor of the building had already received a demolition order and the entire property had been investigated by a committee responsible for inspecting buildings at risk of collapse,” Alexandria Governor Mohamed el Sharif said.

The Public Ministry has also launched an investigation to determine the causes of the collapse. The Decent Life initiative, a public fund of the Government of Egypt, has confirmed compensation of 25,000 Egyptian pounds (about 738 euros) for the affected families.
