June 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least nine civilians have died and more than 30 have been injured as a result of an alleged Russian bombardment that occurred this Sunday on the outskirts of the Syrian city of Jisr al Shughur, west of Idlib, according to activists.

The Syrian Civil Defense organization, known as the ‘white helmets’, has specified that the attack occurred around 10:10 in the morning, local time, when Russian planes reached a vegetable and fruit market.

Idlib, in northwest Syria, is the last rebel stronghold in the country and is currently under the control of Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), a terrorist organization that is the successor to the al-Nusra Front (once an affiliate of Al Qaeda in Syria). .

Russia is one of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s main international backers, and its military intervention in 2015 allowed government forces to repel rebel advances and once again seize the initiative on the battlefield.
