The Superior Electoral Court of Brazil (STE) begins judging this Thursday, June 22, whether Jair Bolsonaro will be ineligible for elections for the next 8 years.
The Democratic Workers Party maintains that the former president of Brazil committed an abuse of power on July 18, 2022 when he brought together several ambassadors from various countries to affirm – without providing evidence – that the electronic ballot boxes used in the elections could be the object of fraud .
The seven magistrates of the electoral court must present their votes in a plenary session this Thursday. But if they don’t complete, two more sessions are planned for June 27 and 29.
assault on institutions
Before the press, the ex-mantario affirmed that “there was no criticism, nor an attack on the electoral system.” I gave a presentation on how elections work in Brazil,” he said Wednesday.
Jair Bolsonaro is confident that the Court will not take away his political rights. He claims to want to keep them, although he doesn’t know yet if he wants to run for office again.
The electoral court intends to take into account not only the denounced meeting but the entire climate of attacks on democracy that culminated in the assault by Bolsonaro’s followers on the main government buildings in Brasilia on January 8.
