The Ukrainian authorities have denounced this Thursday that Hungary is holding the eleven Ukrainian prisoners of war, of Magyar origin, in captivity, isolated and incommunicado, which it received from Russia two weeks ago.

“In fact, they are isolated, they have a limited circle of communication, their mobile phones have been taken away,” the Human Rights Commissioner of the Ukrainian Parliament, Dmitro Lubinets, warned the media.

Lubinets has defended that the diplomatic authorities are working to contact the prisoners in Hungary. “We do not understand Hungary’s position and why our diplomats have not been allowed to visit them until now,” he said.

“We do not know why these citizens of Ukraine, being on the territory of Hungary, are actually in the same situation as prisoners of war,” added the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, according to Ukrinform.

The Ukrainian authorities once again insisted the day before that Hungary has violated international humanitarian law in the case of the eleven Ukrainian prisoners of war of Hungarian origin. Lubinets accused Budapest of acting in an “absolutely secret” manner.

Lubinets criticized Hungary because, being a “member country of the EU and NATO”, it has violated international law “so openly and deliberately” and recalled that in these cases the transfer of prisoners must be done with the knowledge of the country of that they are original
