The US condemns “extreme violence” against Israelis and Palestinians and pledges to promote de-escalation

The United States government has condemned this Wednesday the attacks of “extreme violence” against Israelis and Palestinians and has shown its concern about the escalation of violence in the West Bank in recent months.

“We strongly condemn yesterday’s terrorist attack against Israelis that killed four people near Eli, in the West Bank,” said State Department deputy spokesman Vedant Patel, who conveyed his “deepest condolences to the families of the murdered”.

Patel has assured that there are also “worrying reports of violence by extremist settlers against Palestinian civilians” and has demanded that “accountability and justice must be pursued with the same rigor in all cases of extremist violence”, alleging that “there is no justification for terrorism”.

In this sense, the State Department spokesman has expressed his approval of the condemnation of these acts by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

He has also stated that they hope that “the Israeli government will guarantee full accountability and legal prosecution of those responsible for these attacks, in addition to compensation for the loss of homes and property.”

ADVANCE IN THE DE-ESCALATION

The State Department has guaranteed that the United States is “working directly” with its “Israeli allies” and with the Palestinian Authority to “advance de-escalation” and “restore calm.”

“This (de-escalation) is something that the Secretary (of the State Department, Antony Blinken) and other members of the department are deeply committed to,” the spokesperson explained.

“We remain firm in our purpose of promoting de-escalation and, beyond this, an environment where Israelis and Palestinians enjoy the same measures of security, peace and prosperity,” he added.

Asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to build another 1,000 homes in the Eli settlement, Patel said that “unilateral actions like this will only incite tensions and undermine the prospect of a two-state solution.”
