The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohamad Eslami, denied on Wednesday that Tehran, under an agreement with the United Nations nuclear agency, is going to install ten new cameras at the Natanz nuclear power plant. .

The AEOI published a statement on Friday in which it came up against statements by its spokesman, Behrouz Kamalvandi, who during an interview said that the authorities were going to install several cameras in a power plant in Isfahan, although he mistakenly alluded to Natanz, has picked up the IRNA news agency.

The head of the body has spoken this Wednesday in this regard and has stated that said action would go against the law approved in December 2020 by the Iranian Parliament on the end of inspections of nuclear facilities in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. americans.

In March, the Iranian authorities and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) agreed to apply new control mechanisms to guarantee the civil nature of the Iranian nuclear program and to reactivate mechanisms hitherto suspended, such as the operation of surveillance cameras at various facilities. nuclear.

This came after Iran went so far as to turn off in 2022 two of the surveillance cameras installed by the IAEA at its nuclear facilities in retaliation for an agency report criticizing the country for its lack of cooperation.

In recent days, speculation has been unleashed about the possibility of a nuclear agreement between the United States and Iran after the unilateral withdrawal in 2018 of then US President Donald Trump from the Comprehensive Plan of Joint Action signed by the main world powers with Tehran.
