The Crew Motorfest has what it takes to win the race

Let's hope they bring a full tank

With 2 games in his record, The Crew has tried to break through to the biggest automotive titles in the industry and put its name on top. Although he has run out of gas a bit, he has also come up with interesting ideas that many fans have welcomed with open arms, and it seems that for the team at Ubisoft Ivory Tower, the third round will be the charm.

For your next installment, The Crew decided to throw all the meat on the grill to create a very diverse, balanced and open game so that any fan of car titles will find even one element that they like. To achieve this, they decided to take us to Hawaii, an archipelago where we will find all kinds of landscapes, tracks and cars so that each race is unique.

Let’s hope they bring a full tank

Fasten your seatbelts, we’re about to land

In its past installments, Ubisoft Ivory Tower opted to present open worlds so that we can drive freely but, for some fans, there was little interesting in them. The team behind motorfest listened to these critiques, and developed a place that is filled with fun activities, expresses joy, and feels diverse but also connected at the same time, which is why they chose the tropical paradise of Hawaii.

This island is perfect for the intentions of the development team, because that way we have all kinds of tracks and scenarios. For example, we can drive on the streets of Honolulu, but also in its forests, on the slopes of Kilauea and along its beaches. Each place is too different, but even so there are details that remind us that everything is connected, and that we are in the same state.

Stephane Beley, creative director of the game, told us that, fortunately, he was able to travel with his team to Hawaii to learn more about the island, and he said that it was very helpful not only to see up close the scenarios that they finally put into motorfest, but to learn more about the culture and its people. Thanks to this, they knew how to connect each track in the best possible way and convey the feeling of being there.

put your favorite playlist

To make all this diversity of scenarios make more sense, and for all of us to try each driving style, Ubisoft Ivory Tower created the Playlists, which are like mini-campaigns where we are presented with the various themes that we can play continuously. These are street racing, motorsport, off-road, under thunderstorms, with Lamborghinis and with vintage cars.

for the release of The Crew Motorfest, there will be 15 Playlists that combine all the driving styles in a diverse order, with more to follow. The change between racing themes is not only felt in the settings, but also in the cars. We believe that this makes the game unique, because it caters to all fans of the genre, be it those who prefer a more realistic experience or those who prefer an arcade one.

Cars designed for professional racing are more difficult to drive, because the tracks also require us to make more exact turns and maneuvers, while trucks and off-road vehicles are easier to control. Even within the same categories there are noticeable differences; It’s not the same to drive a Lamborghini Revuelto as it is to drive a vintage Ford Shelby, even though their scenarios are similar.

Everyone is invited

If we can describe what we play The Crew Motorfest with one word, it would be: complete. In addition to everything we mentioned about the scenarios and themes, there is an action that adds a lot of accessibility for people who are considered inexperienced in the genre: the rewind action, which allows you to go back in time for a few seconds.

Thus, if a bad turn in a lap costs us several places in a race, we can apply the rewind to go back in time a bit and thus have a second chance. If you don’t want to use it because you think it’s “cheat” or invalid, you can just ignore it, but we think it will be very helpful for some.

In the demo we were able to drive several vehicles, but there are more than 600 available, and all are fully customizable. To unlock the cars and what we can add to them, we must complete challenges, which are missions that go from driving through certain hidden parts of Hawaii to finishing in the top 3 places in a race. There are many and they are a great alternative to Playlists.

For fans of the franchise there is very good news, and that is that they will be able to transfer their cars from The Crew 2 to Motorfest completely free, so that they are not lost in oblivion.

Pimp My Ride

The Ubisoft Ivory Tower team used a new graphics engine to build both the world we drive through and the cars we drive in, so the title looks spectacular. The lighting is gorgeous and the vehicles look extremely realistic. Of course, in the demo we tried, we noticed a couple of bugs that luckily did not ruin our experience, and we still think that the character models look a bit dated, but hopefully they will improve them for launch.

The Crew Motorfest it is a balance between the different styles of play that fans of the genre are looking for. There is content for all tastes, and the implementation of the Playlists seems to us a great success because they give us a product with more identity and that is more attractive to the general public.

Ubisoft Ivory Tower has taken much into account the feedback it received in its 2 previous titles, and also after the reveal of motorfest in january. In addition, they will be attentive to what may happen after its Closed Beta days (July 21-23), so it is easy to see that it is a project with a lot of ambition, but also heart. Let’s hope they give it a good maintenance after its release, and that they listen to what the public wants.
