Several workers and social workers in the region have signed a manifesto on the occasion of the constitution of the city councils of the region in which the PP has allowed Vox to enter municipal governments. In this document, to which elDiarioclm.es has had access, they defend the departments of social services “against hate speech” from the extreme right.
In the text, they recall that the powers of the Public Social Services System are specific to the autonomous communities, but that the municipalities, for the management of their interests and within the scope of their powers, can promote activities and provide public services “that contribute to satisfying the needs and aspirations of the neighboring community”.
Specifically, they exercise as their own competence the “Evaluation and information of situations of social need and immediate attention to people in a situation or risk of social exclusion”, as established by Law 7/1985 of Bases of Local Regime.
The departments of Social Services guarantee, therefore, the exercise of this municipal competence, through the municipal social services as an “instrument with which the municipality is endowed to materialize social rights and guarantee them to all citizens through the action of the professionals”.
We have a responsibility to promote social justice among the people of our community and among the general population.
For their part, these professionals emphasize that the Departments of Equality have the competence to incorporate the gender perspective in all the policies, programs and projects of the municipalities in order to contribute from all areas to promote the equality of women and men and to guarantee non-discrimination based on sex.
“As Social Work professionals who are going to carry out political work at the municipal level during the legislature that has just begun and protected by the ethical principles and values of our profession, we have the responsibility to promote social justice among the people of our community and among the population in general, and defend the inherent respect for the value and dignity of human life, of all people and the individual and social rights that derive from them”.
For this reason, in the current political circumstances, “where the right and ultra-right with municipal representation directly attack the existence of these councils”, they consider it “more necessary than ever” that municipalities with governments committed to human rights make these departments visible.
The objective, they conclude, is “to combat the propaganda of ideas based on the superiority of a group of people against others due to their orientation, identity, gender expression, race, color or ethnic origin, justifying hate or discrimination.” ”.
