High quality lossless audio will reach Spotify at the end of the year, and it will do so with a new subscription level within the streaming music and podcast service that is expected to have a higher price.
The technology company has been working since 2021 in the high quality audioa novelty characterized by incorporating an audio format with CD quality and lossless. This feature has been delayed indefinitely, although Spotify co-chairman Gustav Söderström said in March that it “will come at some point” but that it will do so in a way that “makes sense” to both the company and listeners.
So, as The Verge learned, this high-quality version of Spotify has been ready to launch on the market for more than a year, but the company had planned to introduce it in a subscription plan with a higher cost than the standard plan.
This plan is known internally as ‘Supremium’, and will be the most expensive the company will offeras sources familiar with these plans have shared with Bloomberg. It will incorporate the aforementioned high-quality audio feature, but to justify the price increase, other additional features.
In sense, the subscribers of the new level would have limited access to audiobookseither through a few free hours per month or with a certain number of titles, with the option to buy more.
Spotify currently has a subscription Service, Spotify Premium that can be purchased depending on the number of accounts to be created or if you are a student, with prices ranging from 4.99 euros to 15.99 euros, and with different additional functions.
According to sources, Spotify plans to launch the new subscription plan with high-quality audio. by the end of the year, but I would not start with the United States.
