Biden assures that progress has been made with China after the talks

June 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has assured that progress has been made with China after the talks between the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, and the Secretary of the State Department, Antony Blinken, who is visiting the Asian giant.

“(Blinken) has done a great job. We are on the right track here,” Biden declared during a press conference in which he positively assessed the Secretary of State’s trip to Beijing after the tense relations between the two countries.

For his part, Xi has highlighted the progress in relations as a result of this symbolic visit, from which he hopes a new framework for relations based on “mutual respect” will emerge.

Blinken has vowed that the United States will abide by the ‘One China’ policy and will not support the independence of Taiwan, which China regards as a rogue province, and has urged both sides to settle their differences peacefully.

However, the Secretary of State has also expressed his concerns regarding Human Rights in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, and has called the maneuvers of the Chinese Army in the Taiwan Strait “provocative”.

Both Beijing and Washington have stressed the need to reduce tensions between the two countries, which is why the Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang, has accepted an invitation to visit Washington, and Biden has expressed his willingness to hold a future meeting with Xi. .
