Intel drops ‘i’ nomenclature for Intel Core processors with the arrival of Meteor Lake

Intel has introduced an update to its brand that, with the arrival of the new Meteor Lake processors, drops the ‘i’ feature of each series to simplify them into Intel Core and introduces the most advanced Intel Core Ultra brand of new generation chips.

Currently, the company names its platforms with different nomenclatures that indicate their generation and their range. In its commercial processors of the Core range, for example, the letter ‘i’ is entered followed by a number indicating its capacity and performance (i3, i5, i7 or i9).

The company announced in early May that it was working on a series of brand changes for its products and that it would debut new brand names, as confirmed by the director of Global Communications, Bernard Fernandes, via Twitter.

Now, Intel has formalized a change at the brand level and has said that, from now on, it will classify Intel processors by levels 3, 5, 7 and 9 without the letter with which it has accompanied them in the last 15 years and that introduces the Intel Core Ultra brand for the most advanced.

Therefore, the chips Core 3, Core 5 and Core 7 will be aimed at mid-range laptops, while Core Ultra 5, Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9 They will be presented as processors for high-performance computers with the ability to ‘overclock’.

Intel has explained that with this renaming it is introducing “a brand structure that will help PC buyers differentiate the best” of its latest technology, in the words of the vice president and general manager of Client Computing Group Sales, Caitlin Anderson.

The branding update also introduces Intel vPro Enterprise and Intel vPro Essentials device labels for commercial systems and encourages evolution of the Intel Evo Edition platform for Evo Verified designs.

On the other hand, it has commented that its new series of Meteor Lake processors, which correspond to the 14th generation of Intel processors for mobile computers, “represents a turning point in the guide of processors for Intel customers.” This will also be the first manufactured with the new Intel 4 process node.

In addition, the platform, enabled by Foveros’ 3D packaging technology and the first to incorporate an engine Intel AI Boost, will offer improved power efficiency and graphics performance.
