BERLIN, June 18 (DPA/EP) –

The German Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, and her French counterpart, Gérald Daramain, will travel to Tunisia this Sunday to discuss immigration issues with “prominent politicians” from the country, after the visit last week by the president of the Commission European, Ursula von der Leyen.

After talks with the country’s president, Kais Saied, and in which the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, were also present, von der Leyen announced the possibility of financial aid for Tunisia valued at 900 million euros.

This initiative would try to alleviate the economic problems that Tunisia is going through and as a measure for the authorities to put an end to the migrant boats that set sail for Italy from its coasts, which have increased in recent months.

However, Saied already declared before von der Leyen’s visit that Tunisia would not become a “police of foreign borders” for Europe.
