At least two people have died and 23 others have been injured in India as a result of Cyclone Biparjoy, according to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday night.
The cyclone, which has mainly affected the Saurashtra-Kutch region – located 30 kilometers north of Naliya – has brought heavy rains and wind gusts of between 115 and 125 kilometers per hour that have caused power cuts in numerous villages , as well as extensive damage to the flora and fauna of the region.
The head of government of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, has reported via Twitter of “a high-level meeting at the State Emergency Operations Center to review the performance of the system’s disaster management in the event of the cyclone” and take “assessment of the situation”.
Patel has also assured that the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has received by telephone “complete details” about what happened and has expressed “his concern” about the situation.
