The United Nations has reported this Wednesday that at least two ‘blue helmets’ of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) have been injured after being ambushed by armed people.
“Unidentified armed elements have ambushed a night patrol of the MINUSCA force in the village of Benima,” confirmed the mission’s military spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Yahaya Aïssa.
Aïssa explained that the MINUSCA members responded to the trap and, after the attackers fled, received medical attention in Bangui.
The Mission spokesperson has assured that, “for the moment, the situation in the town is calm, under the control of the blue helmets”.
Despite some isolated incidents, the situation in other towns in the area is also “calm and security in general,” according to the lieutenant colonel.
However, Aïssa has indicated that the number of patrols and aerial reconnaissance tasks have multiplied “to prevent any violent action against the civilian population.”
