China holds live-fire drills in northern Taiwan

June 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Chinese authorities have launched a series of military exercises with live fire in northern Taiwan, within the framework of South China, with which they seek to counteract similar maneuvers carried out by the United States in the Pacific.

The Asian giant’s Maritime Safety Administration has indicated in a statement that it has issued a navigation alert that will come into effect this Tuesday to prevent incidents in the area as the exercises take place.

China usually carries out these types of exercises along its coast, although those carried out in the vicinity of Taiwan tend to attract international attention.

The maneuvers in question take place around the Dachen Islands, a group of islands off the coast of Jiaojiang County that were under Taiwan’s control until 1955. However, Taiwan still controls the islands of Matsu and Kinmen, off the Chinese province of Fujian.

China also plans to conduct other military exercises independently in the north of the South China Sea, the statement said. These exercises coincide with the exercises in Japan, the United States, Canada and France.
