Honduras inaugurated its embassy in China this Sunday, June 11. The opening of this diplomatic headquarters located in Beijing was in charge of the ministers of foreign affairs of China and Honduras. These countries signed a diplomatic recognition agreement in March, after Tegucigalpa decided that China would be represented by the People’s Republic and not by Taiwan.

During this first semester of 2023, China and Honduras have strengthened their relations with different diplomatic acts. On June 6, China installed its embassy, provisionally, in a hotel in Tegucigalpa, and now it is the turn of President Xiomara Castro in Chinese territory.
The Honduran president makes a state visit from June 9 to 14. And within the scheduled activities, the inauguration of her embassy in Beijing took place this Sunday, by Enrique Reina, Honduran foreign minister, and her Chinese counterpart, Qin Gang.
The first Honduran ambassador to China will be the scientist Salvador Moncada, husband of Princess Marie-Esméralda of Belgium.
“Establishing relations with the People’s Republic of China was a courageous decision, it is also recognizing their efforts as a country to create better living conditions for millions of people,” said the Honduran president.
On this official visit, Xiomara Castro will meet with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping.
