Tigray regional president arrives in neighboring Amhara to foster post-war relations in Ethiopia

June 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Acting Administration of the Ethiopian region of Tigray, Getachew Reda, arrived this Sunday in Bahir Dar, the capital of the neighboring Amhara region, to engage in a consensus dialogue with its authorities after years of war in the area.

Amhara security forces collaborated with the Ethiopian army to crush the Tigray Popular Front for the Liberation (TFLP) rebellion at the start of a conflict in 2020 that ended up costing lives, according to respective estimates by the Ethiopian government and the African Union. , to between 100,000 and 600,000 people.

The Tigray authorities have accused Amhara of committing atrocities during the conflict — international NGOs accuse all sides of war crimes in these hostilities — and demanded the withdrawal of Amhara security groups still based in the southern Tigray.

Reda, who was a spokesman for the TPLF and now works as a regional administrator with the approval of the Ethiopian government, has been received upon arrival by the president of Amhara, Yelkal Kefale, and other senior officials in the region for a visit aimed at promoting “the inter-community relations” between both states, includes the ‘Addis Standard’.

The former TPLF spokesman has also denounced the presence of Eritrean troops in his territory, allied with the federal government, which are hindering the relatively successful application of the peace agreement signed in Pretoria, South Africa, in November of last year, exactly two years after the outbreak of the conflict.
