Lebanon officially ends the cholera outbreak after 23 deaths and 671 confirmed cases

June 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Lebanese Ministry of Health has officially ended the cholera outbreak declared in October of last year this Sunday, which has left at least 23 dead and 671 confirmed cases (although more than 8,000 probable).

The Ministry has made the announcement after verifying that the country has not registered new cases during the last twelve weeks, exactly since January 5, so it “confirms the end of the cholera outbreak from the moment of issuance of this release”.

The Lebanese government has appreciated the collaboration provided by international organizations, such as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in managing the epidemic.

Likewise, the Ministry applauds the effectiveness of humanitarian partners in their assistance efforts during the vaccination campaign in the most affected areas, such as the north of the country and the Beka Valley.
