June 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

French President Emmanuel Macron has called on his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, to cease all support for Russia in the war with Ukraine, referring in particular to the use of Iranian drones by Russian forces.

Macron “warned of the seriousness of the consequences, both security and humanitarian, of the delivery by Iran of drones to Russia and called on Tehran to immediately end the support it thus provides to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine” , the Élysée Palace has reported in an official statement.

The French president has had a telephone conversation with Raisi in which he has expressed his “relief” for the release on May 12 of two French citizens held in Iran and has recalled that there are four other Frenchmen imprisoned, for which he has requested their “release immediate”.

Regarding the Iranian nuclear program, Macron has expressed his “concern” about the situation and has reiterated the willingness of France and its European partners to achieve a “diplomatic solution” to the dispute.

In any case, it has asked Tehran for “concrete and verifiable de-escalation measures” and to comply “without delay” with its international obligations as well as the commitments acquired with the International Atomic Energy Agency on March 4, 2023.

Lastly, Raisi and Macron addressed the regional situation and the French leader recalled France’s “constant commitment to the stability and security of the region”.
