At least 19 people have died and more than 100 have been injured by the heavy rains and storms that have affected the Pakistani regions of Jíber Pajtunjua and Punjab, according to the latest official balance.
In the Banu district alone there are eleven dead and 73 injured due to the collapse of roofs and walls, reports Pakistani television Geo TV. In addition, there are five dead and 10 injured in the Lakki Marwat district. Health sources have indicated that among the victims there are four minors and a woman.
The authorities have activated the rescue services to transfer the victims who need medical attention. Hospitals in the area are on alert and there are areas with power outages.
The rains and strong winds have also affected districts such as Sargodha, Gujranwala or Faisalabad, in Punjab. In the village of Chan, three girls have died from the collapse of a wall. There is also heavy rainfall and storms in Pakistani Kashmir.
The Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has already expressed his regret for the loss of people and property damage from the rains. “The people of Lakki Marwat are not alone in this difficult time,” Sharif stressed.
