AI replaced nearly 4,000 US workers in May

Cumulative layoffs in May reached 80,089 in the United States, which represented a 20% increase compared to the previous month and almost four times the level of the same month of 2022, according to the firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, a company that offers the service of relocating laid-off workers to other vacancies in different industries.

The most striking thing is that the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in various companies became the seventh cause of dismissal, according to surveys applied to employers. Thus, in May, 3,900 workers lost their jobs after the arrival of AI in their companies, notes the report .

ChatGPT revolutionized the industry and catalyzed a wave of investment in companies dedicated to language and image-generating Artificial Intelligence. A report of Bloomberg ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI with investment from Microsoft, is expected to power a $1.3 trillion market by 2032.

“Technology will become an increasingly essential part of IT spending, advertising spending and cybersecurity as it develops,” Bloomberg Intelligence chief Mandeep Singh said.
