June 3 () –
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is sworn in this Saturday in Ankara at the start of his third term at the helm of the country for the next five years after his victory in the second round of the presidential elections last week.
The inauguration ceremony will begin in the National Assembly, the Turkish Parliament, at around 1:00 p.m. Spanish peninsular time, followed by another act at the presidential complex that will be attended, reports Hurriyet, by 21 heads of state and 13 prime ministers.
The inauguration will also be attended by parliamentary and ministerial representatives, and representatives of international organizations, including the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), NATO — led by its Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg — and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC).
Erdogan will receive his mandate from the ‘in tempore’ president of Parliament, Devlet Bahçeli, before visiting the Anitkabir mausoleum, where the remains of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, rest, before heading to the presidential complex around at 4:00 p.m.
This past Friday it was the turn of the Turkish deputies to swear in before the renewed leadership of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
The AKP won a total of 268 seats, the majority, although it also has the support of 50 MHP deputies and another five from the Welfare Party. In total, there are 323 deputies that give the alliance of parties related to Erdogan an absolute majority in Parliament.
